But… what if it doesn’t? What if things don’t work out well for you? What if you don’t get that job or the extra income you need? What if your marriage doesn’t work out? What if your child turns out to be a demon, instead of the angel you pictured in your mind when he was two years old?
There are a thousand things that can go wrong in your life, and very few things go exactly as planned. But we plan on things working out, so when they don’t, we get blind-sided and anxious.
There is a saying that goes like this:
Life is what happens to us while we’re making other plans.
Reader’s Digest, January, 1957
When life “happens” and things aren’t working out so well in some area of your life, you might feel overwhelmed or discouraged.
Remember that all affirmations address a felt need. For instance, if I feel no need to remind myself that “I am a winner,” why do I speak the affirmation in the first place? By the same token, the fact you feel the need to remind yourself that everything will work out for you admits that you think there is the real possibility that things will not work out.
In the real world, things sometimes don’t work out the way we want, no matter how many times we try to affirm that they will.
Tweak it up a bit, Bible style
For Christians, those who follow Jesus Christ, we could take this affirmation and tweak it just a little to bring it in line with a Bible truth:
We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
The Apostle Paul to the believers in Rome – Romans 8:28
Truth is, if you are without God in this world, nothing will work out for you. You might score temporary victories, you’ll get some things the way you want them, but nothing good in your life is forever. It’s all over when your life is over.
But with God, since all things with Him are possible, nothing bad in this life is forever, and things will truly work out for those who love Him. Notice the caveat here: FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM!
So even though not everything will work out the way you want it to, in Christ, everything WILL work together for your good!
