Affirming Jesus Where Worldly Affirmations Come to Die

I am becoming a better version of myself

I

This is one of those affirmations that I have to laugh at just a little, because, let’s be honest, it sounds a little wacky.

We used to say something like: I want to be a better person. That’s a great goal. All of us should want to be better persons. All of us have a whole lot of room for improvement in all areas of our lives.

But that’s what affirmations do these days. Why take a perfectly fine idea and repackage it in language that obfuscates the real meaning?

Still, I find the wording of this affirmation a little amusing because it reminds me of software. What version are you now? 1.0, 1.4, or 1.9? What “better version” do you want to attain to? 2.0, 3.0, 10.0? Good luck on your journey to becoming a better version.
